Why we recommend it

This turns the chat into a colleague for routine work: weekly reports, research with sources or analyses that used to take half a day. Scheduled tasks keep running when the laptop is closed. Until September 2026 the feature was called Claude Cowork; since then it has been part of the regular Claude app.

What it does

  • Hand off multi-step tasks; Claude splits them into sub-steps and comes back with the result.
  • Works with folders you share on your computer and with connected apps such as Microsoft 365.
  • Scheduled tasks: daily, weekly or monthly, with nobody watching.
  • Delivers Excel files with working formulas, documents and slides; export as PPTX or PDF.
  • Built-in browser for research and forms.

Prices

  • Free: $0P; handing off tasks comes later according to the vendor
  • Pro: $17 a monthP billed annually, $20 billed monthly
  • Max: from $100 a monthP for five times the usage of Pro
  • Team Standard: $20 per seat per monthP annually, $25 monthly; 2 to 150 seats
  • Team Premium: $100 per seat per monthP annually, $125 monthly
  • Enterprise: $20 per seat per monthP annually plus usage at API rates

Since the merger with the chat, the vendor has been rolling the feature out step by step, starting with Pro and Max. Handed-off tasks use up the plan's limits faster than ordinary chat.

Data protection and law

  • According to the vendor, data is stored in the US. We found no EU data residency for the Claude app.H
  • Team and Enterprise: content is not used for training by default. Free, Pro and Max: depends on the person's setting.H
  • Certifications according to the vendor: SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO/IEC 42001; data processing agreement available.
  • Prompt injection is a real risk: in January 2026 a security researcher showed how prepared files could be used to exfiltrate data. Only share folders that contain no sensitive data.M

Limits

  • Uses up the plan's limits faster than ordinary chat.
  • Parts are still beta or preview, such as controlling the computer.
  • No EU data residency in the app. Clear personnel data and confidential material with data protection first.
