Why we recommend it

Descript quickly turns existing recordings into usable material: you edit a town hall, webinar or podcast through its text like a document, filler words and pauses go, and clips and captions are created automatically. For communications and training, that saves the detour through an agency.

What it does

  • Edit via the transcript in 26 languages, including German.
  • AI assistant Underlord: clips, captions, show notes and bulk edits, with a choice of models.
  • Studio Sound for clean audio, remote recording up to 4K.
  • Translation and dubbing with lip sync; AI voices and voice clones only with the person's consent.
  • API, MCP connection and Zapier.

  • Enterprise: on request; SSO, audit logs, training off by default

Unused minutes expire. AI features also use AI credits.

Data protection and law

  • Stored in the US (AWS, Google Cloud); we found no EU option.H
  • The terms allow training on inputs and outputs unless you switch it off. On Enterprise it is off by default.H
  • SOC 2 Type II. We did not find a data processing agreement on the website; request one before rolling it out.
  • Since 2 August 2026 you must disclose dubs, voice clones and avatars of real people as deepfakes (Art. 50(4) AI Act).R

Limits

  • Some features are English-only, such as filler-word detection. The consent statement for voice clones is recorded in English.
  • The cost of AI features varies from task to task.
  • No EU data residency.
